Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. ~Thomas Edison
There may be no more deafening and gruesome sound than a phone not ringing.
You did all the work. You started your business, built a website, set up a Twitter account, and told all your friends.
You've been to networking events and dabbled with AdWords and you really have been meaning to get some steam behind your business' Facebook page.
But now you're waiting, hoping for the phone to ring. Every second it stays silent seems to tick by louder than the last, pounding in your ear. The silence is making you go deaf.
Don't let it make you go blind, too.
If you focus only on the people not calling, the clients you're not signing, and the business you're not getting, you'll start to only see yourself as a failure. The venture was a bust. You don't have what it takes. Your dreams will never come true.
This vision of yourself should not be allowed to see the light of day.
Get busy so you can block it out.
When the phone doesn't ring, you need to get to work. Tweet more. Give away your services. Meet more people. Tweak your offering. Hone a skill. Find a niche market no one is addressing. Create a plan. Measure everything. Keep trying.
The sound of a phone not ringing? If you're smart, it'll sound a lot like hustle.
