The Life-Changing Magic of Inputs
It dawned on me recently that as I got older, my workouts mattered less when it came to how I felt and how healthy I was. Rather, I could gauge my health largely on how many beer and donuts I’d consumed in a given week.
I used to focus on calories burned (output); but the better metric was calories consumed (input).
Once I realized this, my outlook on everything from how I ran my business to where I donated money changed. Allow me to expand:
When I focused less on sales numbers (output) and more on making sure we have the right people in the right places doing the right work (input), our company grew like never before.
When I worried less about how much money I donated annually (output) and more on the quality of the organizations I gave to (input), I created more social change.
When I stopped trying to write a lot of words (output) and instead set a discipline of reading a lot of words (input), I became smarter.
When I no longer kept track of what I did each day (output) and rather took time to plan my day more strategically (input), I instantly improved my productivity.
You get it.
So now go do it - where can you shift your priority from one of output to one of input? The beautiful secret is that once you do, you’ll actually increase the quantity and quality of your output like never before.
Don’t focus on the quantity of your outputs; focus on the quality of your inputs.
