11 Things My Life Doesn't Need

I'm beyond honored to have been selected to offer up today's prompt for #Reverb10, an annual event and online initiative to reflect on the year and manifest what's next. Each day, a new prompt is shared to get people blogging and tweeting about what's been great and what hopes to be better. Today's prompt:

11 Things. What are 11 things your life doesn’t need in 2011? How will you go about eliminating them? How will getting rid of these 11 things change your life?

For me? Here goes:

  1. Automatic yeses. No more of just saying yes because someone asked. I've got to find the thing that makes the most sense to pursue and then jump in.
  2. Bad food. It's time to remember that fast food is rarely good, but unique local restaurants are usually great.
  3. Bad movies. If it sucks after 20 minutes, I'm turning it off and finding something that doesn't.
  4. Criticism from the wrong people. Words can hurt, but they shouldn't if the person saying them isn't qualified to critique what you're doing. Here's to brushing off the words of some next year, and taking to heart the constructive criticism of those who matter.
  5. Distractions. Better planning and less multitasking will have me more focused next year.
  6. Dumb ideas. Whether from me or others, if it looks like the idea isn't the best course of action, I'm ditching it and finding something that works.
  7. Excuses not to blog. I have too many. Time to let go of all of them.
  8. Free stuff. Sometimes, even if it seems free, it still may cost something. Free stuff can take up space and even distract me. Unless I really need or want it, I'll pass.
  9. Reasons not to walk. I hope even cold weather doesn't keep me indoors as much in 2011. My daughter, too.
  10. Rescheduling writing time. Usually, if a meeting pops up, I'll move my writing time around. It's time to re-prioritize time spent on writing next year.
  11. Unnecessary paper. Next year, I'll scan more things and store them digitally. It's time to streamline.

What are you getting rid of next year?
