Sarah Peck’s blog is a must read. She’s cranking our consistent, high-quality content right now and she deserves a spot in your feed reader.

Case in point: she’s developed this handy questionnaire. This one-page exercise makes you ask yourself the tough questions about your current line of work to see if you are where you’re supposed to be.

I’m a sucker for things like this – things that make us be honest with our feelings and thoughts. Sarah’s questions boil it down to the simplest part so you can focus on whether or not you need to stay put or move on.

And, as she says, sometimes this process reveals to her that she may need to take on a side project without quitting her day job in order to stay fulfilled. So wise.

For more on side projects, listen to Laura Kimball as she challenges you to focus on one and go all in.

Are you doing what you’re supposed to be doing? You won’t know until you get honest with yourself.

Sam – Thanks so much for sharing and posting. I had to create this worksheet during one of those “I’m confused-no idea what I’m doing-should I be here?” moments, and it really helped clarify and crystalize some of my thoughts.

As Jenny Blake taught me, sometimes you’re already at 70% or 80% — and some small changes can make the difference, rather than worrying that you need to do a complete overhaul. Sometimes a side project (like a blog!) keeps you sane and lets you explore ideas, writing, or hobbies on the side without requiring a major shift in your entire life.

Also — I got some of the most interesting emails and comments following. Folks said that the worksheet made many of them realize how much they LIKED their job, and how much they had to be thankful for, but they had forgotten how good they had it. Sometimes we just need to reflect to realize what’s already working. :)

GREAT points, Sarah. It’s cool to hear that people found out how much they enjoyed their currently line of work. Sometimes it’s tough to see how great things are until we have a way to put things in perspective.

And – Jenny Blake is wise.

Hey! I was ceinkhcg out the rhoads blog, which led me to Jenn’s blog, which led me to you… Are you a Portlander? I am. I just want to get more acquainted with other nearby photogs, so… thought I would check.
