A reason to stay

Don’t make it hard to leave. Make it easy to stay.

Groups that set up ridiculous barriers and restrictions to leave aren’t a community. Thinking that you’ll be better off with people who stay put because of rules and regulations you’ve made is coercive at best and cultish at worst.

Groups that set up meaningful and purposeful reasons to stay embody the best of community. They know they are better off when people freely choose to stay put because of the connections and kindness they experience regularly.

Build more tables and fewer fences.

Better, not easier
