I have no idea if Walt thought he'd need to draw any and every film he'd ever make. And chances are good that at 14, he didn't envision theme parks and hotels based on cartoon characters he'd drawn. But how he spent his Saturdays and afternoons after high school (his obligations) ultimately determined his life's work.
