Poetry Self and Prose Self

My guess is that inside of you are two selves - the poetry self and the prose self.

One is high art, abstract, at times confusing, and nearly always beautiful. The other is straightforward, clear(er), explanatory, and complete.

Your task is to know when to engage which self. When you do go with the artsy approach, one that's not measured in numbers? And when do you go with the one that's more formulaic or scientific?

Depending upon your work, your community, and your talents, you'll need to use one or the other. So make sure each is well developed. That's your real task: hone each self so they are at their best when it's time to deliver.
