Community Doesn't Just "Happen"

Community Doesn't Just "Happen"

Building community seemed so effortless when you were younger.

Best friendships developed around lunch tables and jungle gyms, then in college dorm rooms or on random road trips to the beach.

But now you’re grown and it just seems so much harder to build the community you’re desperate for.

The reality is that it was always hard; taking action just felt easier. You used to be in situations primed for building community and now - pandemic or not - you’ve got to motivate yourself to act.

To send the text.

To ask for the coffee.

To set the meeting.

To make time for the call.

The myth is that community just “happened” back then. But that’s not true. Community has always been built the same exact way: brick by brick.

Call by call. Meeting by meeting. Laugh by laugh. Meal by meal.

The bricks you lay today will be the community you call home tomorrow.
